For more than a week, someone has used duplicate keys to remove coins from the vending boxes of three North Carolina newspapers. The Times-News, Freedom Communications' paper in Burlington, reported the thefts occurring from 20 to 25 of its boxes, as well as from others containing Paxton Media's High Point Enterprise and Landmark Communications' News & Record, in Greensboro. Two of the papers have video of the thefts.

The last Saturday in June will be the last Saturday The Abilene (Kan.) Reflector-Chronicle publishes. Thereafter it will publish only on weekdays. With a circulation of approximately 4,000, the paper has been among the smallest in the state to publish a Saturday edition. The Reflector-Chronicle will upgrade its Web site in July and adopt new forms of communication such as social media.
