(AP)A Suffolk man has been charged with capital murder in the fatal shooting of a Virginian-Pilot newspaper carrier.
Suffolk police say a grand jury indicted 19-year-old Christopher Jonta Artis last week. Artis also is charged with robbery and attempted robbery.
Artis was sentenced Wednesday on unrelated grand larceny and weapons charges to three-and-a-half years. He is in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
The new charges stem from the fatal shooting of 50-year-old John Price Jr. as he was delivering newspapers on July 8, 2009.
Suffolk Police Capt. Dean Smith says Price likely was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
