Two university journalism schools have started experimenting with drone technology to report stories, according to Fast Company on Friday, Feb. 22, despite the current prohibition against their use by professional media.

The pilot programs have been swept up in a wider debate about privacy versus freedom of the press and while advocates of the experiments celebrate the potential of drones or UAVs, unmanned autonomous vehicles, for reporting, some civil libertarians and lawmakers are working to keep drone reporting from ever taking off.
