Benson announced the move Thursday in the Star, saying the deal was official in January. He purchased the paper from co-owners Wade Petrich and Jim Holmgren, who have owned the paper since 2004.
Petrich, who also has served as the Star’s editor since 2000, plans to stay on for a while to help in the transition before pursuing other career goals. Benson said he will keep both newspaper offices open.
