IRVINE • A local businessman and newspaper publisher donated $1.5 million to the University of California, Irvine, School of Law to create a faculty position for teaching and researching First Amendment law.

The Pryke Chair on First Amendment and Media Law — named after Raymond Pryke, owner of the Hesperia-based Valleywide Newspapers — is intended to serve as a national opinion leader in free speech and media law issues, UCI announced Tuesday.
