Columbia College’s campus is in the middle of Chicago, but that’s not
the only reason why journalism students there help cover news in the
city every day. The school operates a pair of hyperlocal websites where
students practice their skills while learning about the intricacies of
covering community news.
"We've been able to teach young journalists about communities
they would never be setting foot in and build relationships with people
in communities that they wouldn't come in contact with,” says Suzanne
McBride, associate chair of the department.
