Ford was born on June 7, 1940, in Salt Lake City, and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from the University of Utah. After a lengthy career in print and broadcast journalism, Ford came to Greencastle in the spring of 1992 when he was named executive director of the Society for Professional Journalists (SPJ).
