In the position, Gober will address technology needs and digital development across UCC print and broadcast operating divisions in Wisconsin, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Minnesota and South Dakota.
UCC President Lucy Brown said the corporate management team has considered the new position one of “IT with a ‘twist.’”
Brown continued, “Technology touches everything we do, but we’ve deliberately baked in the concept of audience and advertiser engagement. Without addressing audience and local business expectations, technology itself won’t guarantee our future. We’re pleased that Dee Dee will bring an experienced voice and a quick smile to our discussions and planning.”
Gober has an exhaustive background in technology, planning and workflow. Her most recent position was with Schurz Communications, a newspaper and broadcast company based in South Bend, Ind.
Between 1982 and 2011, Gober performed a variety of technology-related functions for Gannett Company and its many subsidiaries. While her foundation is in IT, Gober’s work background and professional interests are diverse. She began her career with Gannett in 1982, as a classified inbound account executive in Olympia, Wash. Five years later, she was promoted, beginning a series of corporate roles, including a stint as IT manager in Stockton, Calif.
She’s been a key player in collaborative work among media company departments, including digital projects in news, advertising and audience development. Gober considers workflow process improvements a keystone of her experiences.
Gober will tell you she’s not a “technical geek.”
“My background is in finance, and I ‘fell into’ IT along the way,” she said. “I’ve done almost everything at a newspaper except run the press and inserting equipment, so I know how things work together and how to harness technology to improve product, process and business.”
In South Bend, Gober was one of two executive advisers to a group of South Bend Tribune employees that serve as an advisory board to the operating committee. This group funnels information to improve the workplace, identify new revenue opportunities and manage expenses.
