Toronto - The Globe and Mail has announced that Sophie Cousineau has joined as chief Quebec correspondent. Cousineau will play a major role in building The Globe’s national presence and specifically sharing further insight and details with readers regarding many of the Quebec events and activities, from the current election to culture. She will write columns, major features for the newspaper, online and will be a regular voice in Report on Business and Report on Business magazine.

Cousineau’s 17-year career includes stints as a staff reporter for the magazine Commerce, a post at the weekly Les Affaires, and, since 2001, a business column for La Presse. She was awarded first prize for best economic coverage by the Quebec Association of Economists (the Caisse de dépot – Merrill Lynch Economic & Financial Journalism Award), won a National Magazine Award honorable mention for a story on the Vancouver economy on the eve of the Olympics, and earned a 2008 National Newspaper Award nomination in the business category for a story on how unemployed forestry workers in a remote Quebec community are retraining.
