Toronto -- The Globe and Mail has appointed current associate editor Sylvia Stead as its first public editor, effective Jan. 23. In her new role, she will address issues of journalistic integrity, investigate complaints, respond to readers, work with industry groups and manage legal concerns. Stead joined the Globe in 1975 and served in a variety of roles, including executive editor, deputy editor and national editor.
