End of an Era in Newport News Signals New Beginning in Mechanicsville

Mechanicsville, Va. – This week World Media Publishing Solutions in Hanover County added half a million additional copies per week to its workload.
The World Media facility, which also prints the Richmond Times-Dispatch, began printing the Newport News Daily Press with the Tuesday, July 24 edition.
Daily Press readers won’t notice anything different when they open their newspapers. The World Media team has worked diligently since the May 1 announcement of the production agreement, carefully planning and preparing to ensure a seamless transition for customers, according to Sam Hightower, vice president of operations.
All Daily Press Media Group products have moved to the World Media Hanover facility for printing, inserting and delivery. This includes the Daily Press, which publishes seven days per week (about 58,000 daily and 92,000 on Sunday), The Virginia Gazette, which publishes twice weekly on Wednesday and Saturday with a total of 39,000 copies distributed in Williamsburg and the surrounding area, and Tidewater Review, a weekly publication distributing 4,400 copies each Wednesday in the West Point area.
In total, the Hanover team will handle 30 unique pressruns each week and on average produce about 1.2 million copies per week.
The facility also will manage delivery from Mechanicsville to the Hampton Roads area with as many as 65 truck runs to move the various products. Because the Daily Press, The Times-Dispatch and Tidewater Review have a partnership to distribute each other’s products in their primary distribution area, many trucks will deliver all the publications.
