Bennington (Vt.) Banner columnist Harriette Leidich celebrates her 100th birthday this month, making her one of the oldest working columnists. Leidich began her newspaper career by working for her father’s Nebraska-based paper and running the linotype. In 1936, she and her first husband purchased a chain of newspapers.
In 1995, she began her “Senior Moments” column at the Banner. Her column is a collection of several thoughts, mostly on small town matters. She still writes with a typewriter and said she has more to contribute to her column. “I’ve been around a long time. I’ve seen a lot of changes. I’ve been a lot of places. I’ve known a lot of people,” Leidich said.
