Sir John Major has told the Leveson inquiry
that newspaper proprietors should be "personally liable" for the
articles that appear in their titles and could not "wash their hands" of
alleged misdeeds by their reporters.
During his evidence to the inquiry on Tuesday, Major also accused aides to former Labor prime minister Gordon Brown of lying for party political advantage.
