The Nashville City Paper, which began publishing a free weekday newspaper in 2000, will stop publication after the Aug. 9 issue.

The announcement was made to staff members on Wednesday morning.

“In the last few days, we made the difficult decision to stop publishing The City Paper,” SouthComm CEO Chris Ferrell posted in a statement on the paper’s website.
