May 1, 2012 (TORONTO) – Postmedia Network and CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) are pleased to announce a joint initiative promoting the importance of taking control of your vision health in support of Vision Health Month 2012.
The initiative includes information, discussions and tips about vision health and vision loss. The multi-faceted program will be featured on Postmedia’s newspaper* websites and in print. Elements of the program include:
“We are a proud media partner of CNIB on this important initiative,” said Yuri Machado, Vice President, Integrated Advertising, Postmedia Network. “Our network provides the opportunity to leverage many platforms and reach a large and engaged audience to help spread the word about the importance of regular eye exams – to raise both awareness and donations.”
The goal of Vision Health Month 2012 is to educate Canadians about the importance of caring for their eyes in order to eliminate avoidable sight loss in Canada. During the month of May, CNIB will lead a range of exciting community events, public education activities and fundraising campaigns, including a partnership with the Canadian Association of Optometrists that will see participating optometrists donate $2 to CNIB from every eye exam. Funds raised during Vision Health Month will help CNIB reduce avoidable sight loss in Canada and provide community-based programs across the country to ensure no Canadian has to face the challenges of sight loss alone.
“We are thrilled to be working with Postmedia Network to help get the message out about vision health,” said Tim Alcock, Vice President, Marketing and Communications, CNIB. “The importance of taking care of your eyes and supporting services for Canadians who are blind and partially sighted is a message we want to spread far and wide in the most meaningful way. This series will help inform and inspire conversations about these important issues.”
*Participating newspaper websites and print editions include: National Post, The Vancouver Sun, The Province (Vancouver), the Calgary Herald, the Edmonton Journal, the Leader-Post (Regina), The StarPhoenix (Saskatoon), the Ottawa Citizen, The Windsor Star and The Gazette (Montreal).
