Lee Carter has announced he will retire at the end of the year as publisher and vice president of the Standard-Examiner in Ogden, Utah. Upon his retirement, Carter will become director of special projects at the management arm of the Standard-Examiner’s parent company. Carter has been publisher of the Standard since 2005. His career at various Sandusky Newspapers Inc., publications spans 37 years.
“I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with outstanding and highly dedicated employees throughout my career, and I have found none more talented than those working for the Standard- Examiner,” Carter said.
Carter began his newspaper career right out of school in the circulation department of the Sandusky (Ohio) Register. He quickly advanced to the position of circulation director. In 1996, he was promoted to publisher of the company’s Grand Haven (Mich.) Tribune and returned to the Sandusky Register as publisher in 2002.
Doug Phares, president of the Sandusky Newspaper Group, said he will immediately begin a search for a new publisher for the Standard-Examiner.
