Woodland Park, NJ – The Record announced today the launch of "The Political State," a new blog featured on NorthJersey.com that will help set the day’s agenda in Trenton and offer exclusive political insight and analysis of the top issues affecting state residents.
The blog will be supported by the expanded staff of The Record’s State House bureau, which is increasing from five correspondents to nine assigned to such beats as Governor Christie, the Legislature and the state economy, with a focus on issues of particular concern to Bergen and Passaic counties. All correspondents will contribute to “The Political State” with up-to-the-minute information on topics critical to readers, like taxes, government services, state pensions and education.
“We know that Trenton and state news coverage is of great importance to our readers,” said Publisher Stephen Borg. “By developing our State House coverage with a bigger staff, we look forward to offering an in-depth and varied perspective on how Trenton news affects our region of the state.”
Martin Gottlieb, editor of The Record, noted how unusual the expansion is in today's media world. “This growth, under Bureau Chief John McAlpin, is rare in a time when many news organizations have reduced coverage of state capitals across the country,” he said.
“The Political State” will begin the morning with an overview of the day's activity in Trenton, providing links to the best reporting from The Record and other news outlets in the state. Readers can join the conversation by commenting on blog posts that will be updated by bureau staff throughout the day.
