WASHINGTON—August 20, 2012—The Washington Post today begins a rolling launch of its new mobile website. To start, a selection of Washington Post mobile users will be able to access the first phase of a new mobile version of washingtonpost.com
on their smartphones. By the 2012 Republican and Democratic National Conventions, all smartphone mobile users will be able to access The Post’s new mobile website, which will include live video and live blogs.
“Mobile users are among our fastest growing audiences, and we now take a mobile-first approach when we think about how best to serve Post audiences. The initial re-launch of our mobile web is the first of many upgrades we’re unveiling this year,” said Marcus Brauchli, Executive Editor of The Washington Post.

Launching the new mobile website ahead of the conventions will allow users to more effectively keep track of one of the most significant events leading up to the 2012 presidential election. For the first time, Post mobile users will get to experience live video and read a live blog as events are unfolding. Ahead of the conventions, The Post will unveil other interactive tools that will make it even easier for users to engage with content from their smartphones.
In addition to being a much faster site, other features of The Post’s mobile web include breaking news, updated photo galleries, video and rich media accompanying articles. In future releases, users can expect to see new features such as commenting, social sharing, offline reading and robust weather features. Today’s mobile web launch is the beginning of a more highly optimized technical infrastructure and web experience for Washington Post mobile users.
