As the largest city in Canada, Toronto occupies a unique spot in the
North American media landscape: This city of 2.6 million has two
newspapers (The Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail)

either outlet immune from the advertising woes affecting papers in the
United States, national popularity has provided a tangible buffer — even
as both papers put their digital paywalls in place.
