The Star Medya Group plan to increase their competitive position and improve their products for their readers, printing more pages in colour than have been available up to now. In preparation for this they are taking the opportunity to upgrade their existing press control system installed on their Goss HT 70 press in 1996 to the latest PressNet technology based on standard pcs and high speed communication systems. This modernisation will enable a smooth and speedy expansion project to be implemented.

Harland Simon will also provide Star Medya Group with the well established Prima management system and RIPSet (presetting) system so that jobs can be quickly sent to the press and the press accurately pre-set to reduce start up waste. A content proofing screen will be installed at each console, to show a proof of the page that has been selected by the operator. The new PressNet control system will also include new wide aspect touch screens to enable the press operators to see production information and to quickly and easily input any necessary adjustments.

Once this work is completed the new system will be ready for the extension of the HT70 press line with an additional 4hi tower and two CT50 reelstands.

Hasmet Gökirmak, the Chief Operating Officer for Star Medya said; "Harland Simon has been our partner for many years and we have always found the press control system to be very reliable. When we understood that the system could be upgraded before the press extension, Harland Simon was an obvious choice to be our partner again. We are looking forward to the benefits that the new system will bring to us. We knew that there were parts of the old system that were becoming obsolete and these have been eliminated. The press management, pre-setting and content proofing systems will benefit our printers and our products as well as helping to reduce our waste figures".

David Wallen, Harland Simon’s Director of Customer Service added; "we are delighted to be able to provide our PressNet controls and Prima management systems for Star Medya which, thanks to our well proven template for site work we know that we can install and commission around the customer’s busy production schedule".

Work is expected to start on site in Istanbul in the middle of July this year and should be completed in September.
