FORESTWEB Report: For Newsprint, Good News and Bad News North American newsprint mills operated in October at the best rate since March, with Canadian newsprint mills seeing the greatest improvement. Meanwhile, overseas newsprint shipments have declined more sharply in the U.S. than in Canada. Total North American newsprint shipments fell 24.4% year-over-year in October.- January 13, 2010
North American Newsprint Mill Operating Rates Up; Price Hikes Imminent As newsprint mills in North America continue to take extensive downtime to try to tighten markets for a price increase this fall, production in September fell 33.8% year-over-year, bringing total output through 2009's first three quarters to 5.381 million tonnes -- down 30.6% from a year earlier.- October 26, 2009
FORESTWEB Report: Total Newsprint Consumption Reaches Lowest Point, Year-Over-Year Total newsprint consumption in the U.S. plummeted 27.1% year-over-year in August, exceeding the decline year-to-date low of 25.6%, according to data released by the Pulp and Paper Products Council (PPPC). FORESTWEB Report: Exports of North American Newsprint, Domestic Consumption Both Down There's not a bright spot in the markets for North American newsprint, as reflected in data released June 23 by the Pulp and Paper Products Council (PPPC). In May, total U.S. consumption fell 26.6%, while exports declined 36.2%, both compared to a year earlier.- June 30, 2009

FORESTWEB Report: U.S. Dailies' Newsprint Consumption Falls by 1 Million Tonnes in 2008 Newsprint consumption by U.S. daily newspapers fell last year by 16.3%, to 5.245 million tonnes, down from 6.265 million tonnes in 2007. Somewhat less depressed was total U.S. newsprint consumption, which dropped last year by 13.8% year over year, to 6.758 million tonnes. - February 02, 2009
