Cars.com Adds iPhone App, Says Mobile 5% of Traffic

By E&P Staff

Published: February 05, 2010

CHICAGO Mobile now accounts for 5% of all traffic on Cars.com, the newspaper-owned auto site said Friday as it announced a free iPhone car shopping application.

"Nearly a third of all mobile visits to Cars.com are being made from the iPhone," said Bill Swislow, Cars.com senior vice president of product. "We are excited to enhance the mobile experience for Apple users and reach a new audience of car shoppers by offering the first automotive shopping app for the iPhone that allows shoppers to find both new and used cars from a large selection of inventory."

In addition to providing search of its car inventory, the app allows users to save specific dealerships or listings and locate nearby dealership. The app can also sort listings by distance, mileage, price and model year. Users can access Kelley Blue Book Values, the Cars.com "Smart Target Pricing" feature and other affordability and payment calculators.

Mobile shopping will be featured in Car.com's 2010 advertising campaign, beginning Sunday with a new 60-second spot during the Super Bowl.

Cars.com is a division of Classified Ventures LLC, which is owned by Belo, Gannett Co. Inc., The McClatchy Company, Tribune Company and The Washington Post Company.
