Florence 'TimesDaily' Names Executive Editor

Published: April 02, 2009 10:21 AM ET

FLORENCE, Ala. Scott M. Brown has been named interim publisher and Scott Morris interim executive editor of the TimesDaily, the Florence newspaper that now has a new owner.

Tennessee Valley Printing Co. Inc. officially took over ownership of the TimesDaily on Tuesday from The New York Times Co., which owned it for more than 26 years.

Brown, 49, grew up in Humboldt, Tenn., and has been in the newspaper business since 1977, including 18 years with Gannett Newspapers. He was publisher of the Montgomery Advertiser before becoming director of operations for Tennessee Valley Printing last year.

He said he expects to name a TimesDaily publisher within 60 days.

Morris, 50, a Hartselle native, has worked more than 21 years at The Decatur Daily, most recently as managing editor. Tennessee Valley Printing also owns The Decatur Daily and The Moulton Advertiser.

Stephen A. Schmidt was publisher and T. Wayne Mitchell executive editor of the TimesDaily prior to its sale by The New York Times Co.
