Share on LinkedIn 55-Year 'Enid News and Eagle' Veteran Dies After Stroke

ENID, Okla. A 55-year veteran of the Enid News and Eagle has died after suffering a stroke last week.
The newspaper reported that Phil Brown, who worked as a reporter, editor and columnist, died Wednesday at age 81. Brown was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 2004.
Brown was born in Eldorado, Ill., on Sept. 25, 1927, and had lived in Enid since 1929. He attended Phillips University and what is now the University of Central Oklahoma and served two stints in the U.S. Air Force.
He started working with the Enid Morning News and Enid Daily Eagle as a feature writer in June 1953. He became the city editor in 1960 and the managing editor of the Enid Morning News in 1982.
He moved to the news editor's job in 1988 and held that position until his retirement in 1992.
