NEW YORK Rick Jensen has been named executive editor of Rochester, N.Y.-based newspaper group Messenger Post Media.

In his new role Jensen will be the chief newsroom manager, overseeing news coverage of the Daily Messenger in Canandaigua, N.Y., nine weekly publications in surrounding counties, and the group’s Web site, MPNnow.com.

A University of Missouri graduate and Rochester, NY, native, Jensen has spent more than 30 years with Gannett Co, working in publishing and editorial positions at newspapers in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and various cities in New York.

“Rick brings a wealth of experience, journalism excellence and leadership to our company,” Kathy Hammond, who served as interim publisher of Messenger Post Media, said to the Daily Messenger. “We’re really looking forward to our current team working together with Rick to further improve on our track record of excellence and success.”

“Our No. 1 priority will be to continue to strengthen our local news coverage and improve service to our many print and online readers in the Canandaigua and Rochester areas,” Jensen told the paper.
