Online Video App Newsy, Staffed by Mizzou J-Students, Popular on iTunes Store

CHICAGO Newsy.com's video news analysis application, which trains student journalists in a partnership with the University of Missouri, was ranked No. 6 Thursday on the list of free apps in the News category in the iTunes App Store.

The Newsy application offers short daily videos that analyze the key differences in how a story is being reported by various news organizations.

In a partnership with Mizzou's School of Journalism and the Reynolds Journalism Institute, Newsy opens its multimedia newsroom to students who take classes that require them to produce and write Newsy.com's editorial content.

Newsy President Jim Spencer said the app's appeal stems from a growing perception of bias in the news, and the demand for online video.

"We're thrilled about Newsy's ascension up the list of free news apps -- it's affirmation that Newsy.com is ahead of the trends for news and news delivery," he said.

Newsy, at http://www.newsy.com says its goal is to "accelerate the understanding of how a news story is being covered differently by media outlets from around the world."
