Sister Weeklies Swap Days, Simplify Subs

By E&P Staff

Published: October 05, 2009 10:00 AM ET

NEW YORK The Becker County Record, Detroit Lakes, Minn., has moved to Sunday distribution from Wednesday (with some subscribers receiving copies on Saturdays), while sister publication The Detroit Lakes Tribune is moving from Sunday to Wednesday distribution, Editor Nathan Bowe informed readers Friday on the DL-Online Web site.

The Detroit Lakes Newspapers staff produces both weeklies and the Lake Area Press weekly shopper.

The Tribune was delivered only to subscribers, whereas the Record was delivered free. Now, subscribers to either also get the other free. Nonsubscribers get neither newspaper, but continue receiving the Lake Area Press on Friday, ensuring that all ad supplements and inserts go out to everyone in the coverage area.

The Record will offer news, opinion, sports, farm and outdoor news. But because of printing plant deadline requirements, Friday evening sports will be covered in the Wednesday Tribune, while DL-Online will carry same-day game results.
