Protecmedia Milenium Supports Publishing to E-reader

By E&P Staff

Published: October 29, 2009 12:56 PM ET

NEW YORK Protecmedia's Milenium cross-media publishing system is supporting newspaper publication on e-books.

The capability already is used by Spain's El Mundo. The Unidad Editorial flagship offers subscribers the daily version in e-book format through Amazon's Kindle, on which the daily may be read through monthly subscription or payment on a daily basis.

Through Milenium, El Mundo generates XML-tagged content as needed by Amazon, which receives the XML data and converts them into a valid format for its e-book. Amazon then sends the content in the new format to El Mundo's subscribers for display on their Kindle.

Through the same interface used to edit content for print and online editions, a newsroom can designate given content for e-book format without altering its normal functioning, owing to the level integration, according to Protecmedia.
