NEW YORK Montreal-based Polkadots Software announced 15 more recent installations of its Ink-it ink-optimization plug-in for the Harlequin RIP. Polkadots reports more than 200 Ink-it licenses in just over one year.

The lastest users are: The Virgin Islands Daily News, Times-Shamrock Communications' paper in St Thomas, Judd Publishing, Macon, Ga., Stigler (Okla.) News-Sentinel, The Todd County Standard, Elkton, Ky., Lafromboise Communications, Centralia, Wash., Mississippi's Greenwood Commonwealth, Delta Democrat Times, Greenville, and Enterprise Journal, McComb, (all members of Emmerich Newspapers Inc.), Hutchinson (Kan.) News, Derrick Publishing, Oil City, Pa., The Daily Journal, Kankakee, Ill., The Register Guard, Eugene, Ore., Denton Publications, Elizabethtown, N.Y., Penny Lane Printing, Avon, N.Y., and Douthit Communications, Sandusky, Ohio.

All were installed remotely, eliminating on-site costs and workflow disruptions.

Polkadots also cites rising demand from newspapers with Harlequin RIP-based workflows. Poladots NEWSflo, Presteligence NewsXtreme, TSE/Harris/ Global Graphics MaxWorkflow, ProImage NewsWay and Agfa Arkitex sites, among others, can realize Ink-it's cost saving, improved quality, reduced make-ready waste and other benefits.

Polkadot says its plug-in takes minutes to install and configure and is available for $3495.

Eugene's Register Guard installed Ink-It in its Arkitex Workflow Director v5.0, with Harlequin RIPs and Sublima Dots. "We did plate tests with four-color pages from previous press runs and you could tell right away the difference in the amount of process ink that would be used or saved," Press Manager Rick Gilstrap said in a statement. "When we switched live, only a few of us knew, and no one noticed any change in quality. Ink-it also helped with the offset from the folding rollers."
