NEW YORK The Daily Times in Wilson, N.C., has replaced analog platemaking with a system based on Southern Lithoplate's Viper 830 thermal plate.

The paper images its plates on a Screen 2000LE acquired through Southern Lithoplate as part of a package that also included Presteligence workflow software, according to Production Director Tim Haywood, who said the computer-to-plate system was installed in July.

"Registration is more precise and we are achieving brighter colors," Haywood said separately in a statement, citing support from Southern Lithoplate and the ability to justify the system "based on labor and materials savings."
