Canopy Surveys Interest in Paper from Non-Wood Fiber
Eco-paper experts at environmental non-profit organization Canopy today launched an online survey to gather information to gauge North American market interest in papers made with fiber from agricultural residues. Canadian Geographic's "wheat-sheet" trial showed that non-wood papers can meet technical and quality needs, said Canopy. - November 19, 2009


Latest Layoffs End NAA's Last Two Tech Jobs
In the Newspaper Association of America's second workforce reduction this year, 10 jobs were cut from the administrative support, back office and business development departments. Apparently among positions eliminated were the NAA's last two technology staffers. - November 18, 2009


Allianz, MAN to Pay Off All manroland Debt
German pressmaker manroland's owners, the Allianz Capital Partners private-equity subsidiary of the Allianz Group insurance company and Munich-based engineering and manufacturing conglomerate MAN AG (manroland's former parent company) will pay all remaining manroland debt. - November 18, 2009


DTI Cloud to Host 'Post Register' Ad System
The Post Register in Idaho Falls, Idaho, has reached an agreement with Digital Technology International to host its DTI Advertising solution in DTI Cloud, the company's software-as-a-service offering. - November 17, 2009


Big Danish Publisher Moves to Saxotech Mediaware Center
Berlingske Media -- Denmark's largest news publisher, with 14 dailies, dozens of other, local newspapers, Web sites and regional radio stations -- will deploy the Saxotech Mediaware Center for content creation and sharing and channel management for more than 80 print and digital product titles. - November 16, 2009


North Wales Newspapers Adds Ferag EasySert
North Wales Newspapers has added EasySert with RollStream precollecting to the other Ferag equipment in the mailroom at its 2-year-old Flintshire plant, where it handles a wide range of inserts down to A6 format and including add-ons such as CDs and DVDs, allowing NWN Media to expand inserting for its own and others' titles. - November 13, 2009

Post-press equipment manufacturer Kansa installed a Kansa 760 inserter and Multi-Feeder at the Manila Bulletin, the Philippines' largest daily. - November 12, 2009


Anygraaf's First U.S. Classified System Running in Idaho
The first U.S. advertising system installation by Anygraaf is now in live operation at Idaho's TPC Holdings, publisher of The Lewiston Tribune and Moscow-Pullman Daily News. AProfit was installed in Lewiston to automate classified ad booking for both publications and integrates with their Anygraaf Doris32 and Planner systems. - November 12, 2009


Escenic Announces New Products in Use, in Development
24 Media, producer of Greece's largest online network, has chosen the Escenic Content Engine. Norway's Aftenposten is the first customer to launch a Web site powered by the Widget Framework on Escenic 5. The Netherlands' De Telegraaf has launched Escenic Tip Engine. Escenic also is at working on in-page Web editing. - November 10, 2009


DTI Signs Circ System Deal with Cox
Digital Technology International signed a multimillion-dollar agreement with Cox Media Group to install its DTI Circulation suite of circulation, distribution, marketing, and reporting software at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dayton-based Cox Ohio Publications, Palm Beach Newspapers Inc., and the Austin American-Statesman. - November 10, 2009

With demand for heavy equipment in decline among newspapers and other printers, two press makers are looking to expand beyond their traditional markets by applying their engineering and manufacturing expertise to products for other industrial sectors.
