'El Paso Times' Editor Quits

Published: August 19, 2008 4:11 PM ET

EL PASO, Texas The editor of the El Paso Times has stepped down, officials at the newspaper announced Tuesday.

Dionicio "Don" Flores, executive vice president and editor at the paper, had run the paper since about 1992. His staff was told about the resignation during a newsroom meeting Tuesday morning. A successor was not immediately named.

Flores, who was not in the office, did not immediately return a telephone message left at his El Paso home seeking comment.

Media inquiries were referred to publisher Ray Stafford, who also was not in the office Tuesday and could not immediately be reached by telephone.

Flores, who has been a Texas State University System regent since 1999, has previously held editing and management positions at newspapers in Iowa, Arizona, Nevada, California and Texas.

The El Paso Times is owned by Denver-based MediaNews Group. Gannett owns a minority share in the daily newspaper.
