McClatchy Interactive Cuts 16 Employees

Published: September 18, 2008 1:49 PM ET

RALEIGH, N.C. An Internet division of McClatchy Co. is cutting about 11 percent of its work force as the company continues to deal with slumping advertisement sales.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Thursday that McClatchy Interactive, which provides online services for McClatchy's newspaper Web sites, has cut 16 employees from its staff.

Interactive Media Vice President Christian A. Hendricks said the decision was based on declining advertisement sales.

The McClatchy Interactive newsroom filters and repackages national and international wire stories for McClatchy's newspaper Web sites.

McClatchy Co. is based in Sacramento, Calif. The company said Tuesday it was cutting 1,150 jobs, which marked the second broad staff reduction in three months.
