Perp Gets Life for Killing 'Davis Enterprise' Circ Manager

Published: July 10, 2009 1:27 PM ET

SACRAMENTO, Calif. A 22-year-old man convicted of gunning down a newspaper circulation manager in Sacramento during a robbery attempt has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Lloyd G. Connelly told Rashard Delrico Mack on Thursday that his conduct was "reprehensible and foolish" in the shooting death of 36-year-old Jesse Reiter.

Reiter was the circulation manager at the Davis Enterprise newspaper when he was killed in 2007. Prosecutors said Reiter and a friend had been drinking at bars and a strip club when a man lured them into a robbery setup.

Jurors found Mack shot and killed Reiter when he tried to resist the robbery.

Mack's co-defendant, Ulysses Peter Walker, is set to be retried in August after another jury deadlocked.
