'AJC' Will No Longer Endorse Political Candidates

Published: October 10, 2009 11:00 PM ET

ATLANTA The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has announced that it will take a new approach to election coverage and will no longer endorse political candidates.

The newspaper's editorial board says in a story posted on its Web site late Friday that it wants to provide information about critical issues for the community.

Citing a desire to better inform readers, the board says the editorial page will be used to "provide additional insight into the key candidates' vision for the future and how they would tackle big issues."

The board says it has heard from readers that they don't need the newspaper to tell them how to vote.

Instead, the board says, readers want information on who the candidates are, what they've done and what their plans are.
