Joliet 'Herald-News' Switches to Tab Format

NEW YORK The Herald-News in Joliet, Ill., was delivered to readers in a new tabloid format on Monday, the last step in the Sun-Times News Group's plan to convert its broadsheet newspapers to the smaller format.

Other papers that have made the switch this year include The Courier-News in Elgin, Ill., The Beacon-News in Aurora, Ill., and the Post-Tribune in Gary, Ind.

The Herald-News’ Web site has also been overhauled to allow more emphasis on breaking local news. Readers can receive e-mail or text message updates by signing up on the site, and subscribers can manage their subscriptions online.

"Our network of publications is now 100% tabloid with this launch, providing us with a very flexible platform for our advertising clients to reach consumers and setting us up for future success,” Rick Surkamer, President and Chief Operating Officer of Sun-Times Media Group Inc., said in a statement.
