NEW YORK The Lima (Ohio) News celebrates its 125th anniversary today with a special anniversary section and receptions for its supporters.

Previously known as The Daily Democratic Times, the paper's first edition was published on Oct. 27, 1884. Lima’s two newspapers merged in 1920 and the name was changed to The Lima News in 1926. Since then, more than 45,000 editions of the paper have been published and the paper and its Web site, LimaOhio.com, reach more than 90,000 readers and viewers throughout Lima and West Central Ohio.

To commemorate the anniversary, The Lima News is publishing a special anniversary section of the paper including pictures, historical stories, profiles on influential residents and a timeline of the News. Proceeds from the ads in the anniversary section are being donated to Lima’s Newspapers In Education program, which provides newspapers as a learning tool for students in the area.

The News is also celebrating its anniversary with a reception for advertisers, public tours, and a celebratory lunch/dinner for associates.

“We could not have attained this 125-year milestone without the continued support of the readers, the advertisers and the communities we serve,” said James Shine, Publisher of The Lima News, said in a statement. “We not only celebrate our years of service to this region, but we celebrate the people who have made this journey through time with us.”
