A.H. Belo to Close New South Dallas Plant

NEW YORK A.H. Belo Corp., parent of The Dallas Morning News, announced it will close its 133,000-square-foot South Dallas plant and consolidate operations at its North Plant, in Plano by next spring “to realign its business and reduce expenses.”
Opened less than three years ago and primarily used for packaging and distribution operations, the South Plant will be put up for sale. “Our goal is to find a buyer who ultimately will employ more people than work there now," A.H. Belo Corp. Senior Vice President Dan Blizzard told Morning News reporter Rudolph Bush.
The Morning News reported that it will transfer most of the South Plant’s 60 full-time positions to the North Plant.
With automated FSI storage-and-retrieval, collating, bundle-polywrapping and cart-loading systems, the South Plant offered packaging capacity for the Sunday Morning News, which had outgrown its North Plant (E&P Online, April 14, 2006).
The company said it will compensate the city for tax abatements worth as much as $400,000 for the South Plant. The incentives were awarded because the 50-acre, $50-million project was within a city enterprise zone.
