Wilkes-Barre 'Times Leader' Names New VP/Exec. Editor

NEW YORK The Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. has appointed Joe Butkiewicz its new vice president/executive editor.

Butkiewicz, who is promoted from managing editor, will be responsible for all of the paper’s news operations.

Butkiewicz, 51, began working at The Times Leader in 1982 as a correspondent. In 1983 he became a feature writer and was promoted to the Arts and Leisure team leader in 1995, and was named editorial page editor in 2001. In 2005 he was named managing editor of The Times Leader community newspapers, and became managing editor in 2007.

A graduate of Luzerne County Community College and New York University, Butkiewicz lives in Kingston, Pa., with his wife and two children.
