By E&P Staff

Published: November 04, 2009 2:30 PM ET

NEW YORK The Wall Street Journal this Thursday will launch a San Francisco Bay Area edition. The local news and events coverage will appear every Thursday in its A section.

Additionally, the paper announced that NASDAQ OMX is the launch's official sponsor through the end of the year.

"Within the tech sector, 88% of public technology companies in California list on the NASDAQ," John Jacobs, NASDAQ OMX's executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said in a statement. "We look forward to reading the Wall Street Journal's Bay edition regularly and hearing about key business trends and innovations coming from this vibrant, progressive region in our country."

The Bay Area edition plans to cover not only business, technology and economics but also culture, sports, politics and education.

"The new San Francisco Bay Area edition is a great addition to the wide range of U.S. and international coverage we currently provide to Journal readers in the Bay Area," Michael F. Rooney, chief revenue officer of the Journal, said in a statement. "This edition also provides a new platform that helps advertisers target this important audience."
