FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield University officials have lodged harassment charges against the school's student newspaper after a satirical column sparked a protest on campus.

The Jesuit university's dean of students, Thomas Pellegrino, says The Fairfield Mirror's column on Sept. 30 also violated the paper's agreement to receive funding from the school, rendering the contract "null and void."

The column lampooned female students who agree to one-night stands, and described a female's "walk of shame" leaving a male's dorm.

Pellegrino refused to say what possible sanctions the newspaper faced.

The newspaper later published an apology, and student editors promised changes to guard against divisive and offensive language. They don't believe the paper violated its funding agreement.
