E&P's 9th Annual Photos of the Year Contest
E&P's Ninth Annual Photos of the Year contest this year drew the largest number of entries ever. These prize-winning photographs were selected from nearly 1,000 submissions in four categories (news, features, sports, and multiple images/photo essay), and represent some of the most striking images published this year by newspapers in four circulation classes. Whether it's gripping images of the destruction wrought by the May earthquake in China or poignant photos of an aspiring ballerina in a children's hospital, there's much to be appreciated among this year's winning photographs.
Watch that Wall! Mike Bonnicksen/The Wenatchee (Wash.)World The wall on the south side of the old Stemilt Growers building in Wenatchee, Wash., collapses during a structure fire on June 20. Officials say a faulty power cord crimped by a door caused the early morning fire that destroyed the building. No injuries were reported among the firefighters.
