LONG BEACH, CA, January 9, 2013 – American Circulation Innovations, (ACI), has announced plans for its first annual John G. Walsh Memorial Golf Invitational this spring.
Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the John G. Walsh Memorial Scholarship Fund at Michigan State University.
“Our annual golf tournament has been a popular event for our industry clients and friends,” said Keith Somers, ACI President. “Now we are giving it a new meaning through our relationship with the Walsh Memorial Fund.”
Somers added that the specific date, location and details of the 2013 event would be announced in the next few weeks.
John Walsh, who had served as ACI’s EVP/COO, died of cancer last summer. He is survived by his wife Cindy Stone-Walsh and their family. Before joining ACI, Walsh held senior executive roles with the Dallas Morning News, Orange County Register and other major newspapers.
“The support from the newspaper industry for John’s scholarship fund has been very generous and heartwarming,” said Cindy Stone-Walsh. “We are delighted that ACI is participating with the tournament.”
“John made a tremendous impact here at ACI and in the industry,” noted Somers. “This is simply one of the ways we can carry on his legacy and contribute to helping others.”
ACI previously held its own annual golf event but has discontinued it to focus exclusively on the Walsh Memorial Invitational tournament, including plans for related fundraising events such as auctions and promotions.
“As only one of many who helped establish the John Walsh Scholarship, I am excited to partner with ACI to honor John’s legacy and all the enormous contributions he made to the industry and the tremendous impact he will always have on us personally,” said John Schueler, former publisher of The Tampa Tribune.
