New York, June 6, 2013 – BBC.com today announced the launch of two business journalism sections that will interpret global economic stories, trends and profiles to a personal level. The two new sites – BBC Capital and BBC Entrepreneurship – underline the site’s commitment to become a household source for business news and features.
“BBC is no stranger to financial newsgathering – our new investment harnesses our extensive net of business reporting to deconstruct global economic news,” said Nick Ascheim, SVP Consumer Digital. “We’ve hired some of the brightest journalists out there and built a one-stop shop for personally relevant business news. We’re charging into business coverage with full force.”
BBC Capital will provide unique content around the following business editorial pillars:
— Leadership and Management – Decodes effective leadership strategies and the most important, but hard-to-explain qualities of the best leaders. Featured columnists include former Wall Street Journal columnist, Liz Garone
— Personal Finance – Offers both practical and philosophical solutions to help readers make decisions about their careers and wallets. Featured columnists include former host of ABC News’ Money Matters, Kelsey Hubbard
— The Workplace – Examines how we work, where we work, generational shifts, workplace ethics and much more. Featured columnists include former Wall Street Journal editor and author, Ron Alsop
Leading the charge is former Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek editor, Jennifer Merritt. “I joined BBC.com for the opportunity to explore these subjects in a deeper and more global way,” said Merritt, Editor of BBC Capital. “We’re interpreting global economic trends and business developments for a wide spectrum of readers – expanding on what the BBC does best.” Also on board is former Thomson Reuters News Editor, Chelsea Emery.
Alongside BBC Capital, BBC Entrepreneurship will provide small business owners and investors with engaging insights from people who have made their businesses successful. The site will feature weekly insights from award-winning BBC business correspondent, Peter Day, and a series called Thinking Business that will examine the latest ideas – for example, why are there so many startup competitions?
Beginning this week, BBC.com’s new business content will also be available on the social magazine Flipboard. Visitors to BBC Capital will be able to continue their journey and conversation with others via Twitter and Facebook.
In the U.S., the launch of BBC Capital is supported by commercial partners Siemens and Manpower.
