Small- and medium-sized businesses are spending much more on digital services than on online advertising, according to the latest report from Borrell Associates.

The research firm found that the average U.S. business spends about $17,000, or 72%, of its online marketing budget on online services, such as consulting, SEO, email management and Web presence, compared to only $6,800, 12.4%, for advertising.
