Charles Wood, editor of the Helena (Mont.) Independent Record for 14 years, was dismissed after bringing a pistol into work June 1.
A police report stated that officers on the scene verified that Wood’s .22-caliber Colt Woodsman semiautomatic was “not stolen” and the deposition is listed as “noncriminal.” The 13,396-circulation daily Record, owned by Lee Enterprises, listed news editor Dave Shors as acting editor, but made no formal announcement about Wood’s departure.
