The 75th anniversary of “Blondie” is Sept. 8, but the comic will begin marking the milestone this Sunday.

In the July 10 strip, “Blondie” writer Dean Young will start a three-month continuous story line — the longest in the strip’s history. The sequence will center on Blondie and Dagwood planning a major wedding anniversary, according to King Features Syndicate, which distributes the comic to more than 2,300 newspapers.

Dean is the son of “Blondie” creator Chic Young (1901-1973).

The anniversary story line will also be referenced in other comics — and not just King ones. King said the participating features will include “B.C.,” “Beetle Bailey,” “Bizarro,” “Curtis,” “Dick Tracy,” “For Better or For Worse,” “Garfield,” “Gasoline Alley,” “Hagar the Horrible,” “Marvin,” “Mother Goose & Grimm,” “Mutts,” “The Family Circus,” “The Wizard of Id,” and “Zits.”

Meanwhile, Young will feature characters from these and other comics — including “Dennis the Menace” and “Dilbert” — in the “Blondie” story line. Also, George and Laura Bush will appear in caricature.

Finally, all the guest characters are scheduled to attend an anniversary party in the “Blondie” comic of Sunday, Sept. 4.
