New Owners at Oregon’s ‘New Era’

Scott and Miriam Swanson have bought The New Era in Sweet Home, Ore., from Alex and Debra Paul, the weekly announced in its April 10 edition.

No terms of the sale were disclosed. Jeff Potts of JP Media Partners in Gold River, Calif., handled the transaction, the newspaper said.

The sale of The New Era Publishing Company Inc. includes the 8,000-circulation New Era; its total market coverage shopper’s guide Extra; and the paper’s Web site,

Scott Swanson began his career 25 years ago as a sportswriter at the Grants Pass Daily Courier. He worked at the Five Cities Times-Press-Recorder community newspaper in Arroyo Grande, Calif., and the San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group, east of Los Angeles. Most recently, the newspaper said, Swanson managed the editorial operations for 14 weekly community newspapers with a total circulation of approximately 175,000.
