The End of the NY Tabloid War

On March 23, 2005, five 100-pound sacks of peanuts addressed to the Daily News’ leadership, including owner Mort Zuckerman, arrived at the newspaper’s Manhattan headquarters.

 

It wasn’t a mix-up. The nuts had been sent by the New York Post, the rival tabloid owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. This was not a thoughtful gift, but a monumental gloat in the form of a frat house prank.
