WASHINGTON—March 25, 2013—The Washington Post has unveiled its expanded flagship news app for iPad, now available on the App Store. The app provides a dynamic news experience with all Post content, blogs and multimedia updated throughout the day; a replica of the print newspaper with a 14-day archive and over 40 comic strips; real-time social content and more.
“The new Washington Post App for iPad provides a superior news experience that showcases our in-depth journalism and award-winning photos and video in a sleek new format. The added features will appeal to every type of reader, whether they favor the style of a newspaper, prefer to pick and choose, follow social media or anything in between,” said Martin Baron, Executive Editor of The Washington Post.
“The updated version is far more comprehensive and allows users to enjoy all the benefits that come along with having the entire Washington Post at your fingertips,” adds Cory Haik, Executive Producer for Digital News at The Washington Post.
The app offers the best of everything readers have come to expect from The Post’s website, in addition to a replica of the print edition that delivers a digital copy of the daily newspaper with the same articles and comics. The Washington Post Sunday Magazine is also included with the print replica and lets users flip through pages with one swipe.
Another feature in the app is “The Forum,” a Washington Post tool that makes it easy for iPad users to identify, organize and customize conversations on Twitter. Users can now find a political Forum and a D.C.-area sports Forum, enabling them to have instant access to content Tweeted by politicians, journalists, pundits, athletes, sports figures and local media.
In addition, an easy-to-navigate home screen lets readers view stories and photographs at-a-glance, and users can find their favorite blogs including The Fix, Wonkblog, and The Capital Weather Gang. The app also enables live video, photo galleries, sports scores, search functionality and offline reading.
Norfolk Southern Corporation is the official launch sponsor for The Washington Post App for iPad. The app is available as a complimentary download from Newsstand on iPad or the App Store until the summer of 2013, when it will become part of The Washington Post’s metered digital subscription package. Digital subscriptions for The Washington Post App for iPad may be purchased via In-App Purchase.
